Every platform now ranks video podcasts higher than audio-only, and viewers do not expect a film set — they expect to see a real face having a real conversation. Here is the starter setup we recommend when the budget is tight.

Camera: one is enough. A single mirrorless body like the Sony A7S III on a locked-off wide shot covers two hosts cleanly. Add a second angle later; launch with one and spend the savings on light.

Light: a big soft source. One large softbox or LED panel at forty-five degrees flatters every face and kills the webcam look instantly. Daylight-balanced, dimmable, done.

Audio: unchanged. Video never replaces the microphones. A Shure SM7B per host into a RODECaster Pro II records broadcast audio while the camera rolls — the audience hears a podcast, not a vlog.

Sync: clap once. A visible hand-clap at the top of each take gives your editor a frame-accurate sync point in seconds. No timecode boxes required at this stage.

Total damage: less than a single sponsored episode on most mid-size shows. And if you would rather skip the shopping list, both of our studios shoot 4K multi-cam with an engineer included.
